What should I do after a job application is rejected?

TideProof editorial guide · Reviewed 2026-09-14

A rejection gives you an outcome, but it may not explain the reason. Avoid inventing a story about your ability or assuming AI caused the decision. If feedback is available, use it; if not, focus on the parts of your next application you can improve.

Review whether your examples matched the role's main tasks and whether your explanation was clear and accurate. Choose one adjustment rather than rewriting everything in frustration. You can also broaden your sources of opportunity. Progress often comes from learning across several attempts, without treating any single response as a verdict on your worth.
