What information should I leave out of an AI prompt?

TideProof editorial guide · Reviewed 2026-09-14

Use the least information needed for the task. Before including personal details, workplace documents, financial information, or someone else's records, check the tool's terms and the permissions that apply. A useful draft often does not need real names, account numbers, or identifying details.

Try replacing sensitive specifics with a short general description. For example, ask for a customer-service email structure using an invented situation. If the task genuinely requires private information, use an approved process rather than guessing. Good information choices can make AI easier to use confidently.
