How is AI different from ordinary automation?

TideProof editorial guide · Reviewed 2026-09-14

Automation means having a system carry out a process with less manual work. It can use simple rules, such as sending a reminder on a date. AI can be part of automation when the process needs capabilities such as interpreting language or recognizing patterns.

Not every task needs AI. A calendar reminder may be a better solution than an intelligent assistant that guesses when to contact you. Start with the simplest tool that meets your need. Save AI for situations where interpreting, generating, or comparing information adds something useful.
