Working well with AI

Can AI help me understand a spreadsheet?

TideProof editorial guide · Reviewed 2026-09-14

It can help explain a formula, suggest a structure, or work through an example when the tool supports that task. Use a small invented table first so you can check the logic without uploading private workplace or financial records.

Describe what each column means and the result you expect. Ask the assistant to explain the formula in ordinary language, then test it with values whose answers you already know. Include an empty cell or an unusual value to see what happens. The useful result is a calculation you understand and can verify, not just a formula that looks convincing.
