A new chapter

How can I ask my employer for time to learn AI?

TideProof editorial guide · Reviewed 2026-09-14

Connect the request to a task the team wants to improve. Instead of asking for unlimited time to learn a new technology, propose a short, practical exercise with an approved tool and a clear way to review what you learned. An employer may be better able to evaluate a concrete request.

Explain the time you need, the ordinary work it may help, and how you will keep information and review requirements clear. You might ask for a demonstration, a colleague’s guidance, or access to existing training. This is a way to start a discussion, not a promise that paid learning time or a particular course will be available.
